I ended up getting the 36mm Explorer, it's great! The Sinn 556i caught my eye a couple of weeks ago and can't stop thinking about it. I currently have a Rolex Explorer 39mm and am in the process of selling (file this under grail fail.). I'm looking for a replacement and thought the Sinn might fit the gap. The Sinn 556 is the German manufacturer's bare-bones pilot's watch model. It's the most affordable in all of Sinn's lineup, coming in at ,530 on a bracelet. And for that money it's more about what you don't get – there are no bells and whistles here; its charm lies in its absolute simplicity. Dark Mode; Light Mode; Menu First, I wanted an affordable alternative to the Rolex Explorer 36 at a similar size, and second, the everyday versatility. With a case diameter of 38mm and a thinness of just 11mm, the Sinn 556i wears extremely comfortably on my 6 inch wrists.

The newest Rolex Explorer — whether in steel or two-tone — could be the first steel sports Rolex that doesn’t garner a waitlist. In the beginning, this won’t be the case, but I’d guess that things will settle out rather quickly. The size will make quick work of its potential customer base. The first thing to say is that German watchmaker Sinn’s 556 reference consists, in fact, of two watches. We opted for the 556 A (for “alphabet”) in our alternative-themed Buyer’s Guide, since this variation more closely echoes the modern Rolex Explorer. The overall quality of the 556 is top notch, and the Sellita is a solid movement. I almost pulled the trigger on a 556 IB a while back, but ended up going a different route. Having owned a PRS-25, as a smaller, ‘beater’ version of my 214270, there’s really no comparison between it & the Sinn. I prefer the i. even though it doesnt have numerals it for some reason reminds me more of the explorer, it might have something to do with the fact that the explorer is a bit more subdued for a sportswatch just like the 566i.
